Profile

Cheyenne assists clients with estate and trust planning, and related tax matters. Cheyenne received her J.D. from the University of Victoria in 2005 and her Masters of Law Degree in International Taxation from New York University in 2006. As a result, a major part of her practice is related to cross border U.S. – Canada transactions and estate planning, including estate, gift, and generation skipping tax issues. This includes not only planning for U.S. people in Canada, but planning for Canadians with U.S. assets or beneficiaries, and U.S. residents with Canadian assets or beneficiaries. In addition, Cheyenne advises U.S. citizens and green card holders regarding U.S. tax compliance and the U.S. expatriation tax rules, as well as the tax consequences of emigration from and immigration to Canada.

Cheyenne was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2007 and has been at Legacy Tax + Trust Lawyers since that time, becoming a Principal in 2013. Cheyenne presents often on cross-border tax and estate planning issues to legal, accounting, financial, and lay audiences, and is a member of and active in various professional organizations, including being a Program Committee member of the STEP Vancouver branch, and holding various committee positions in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (“ACTEC”), of which she is an International Fellow. Most recently, she became a member of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law.

Cheyenne’s presentations and publications in Canada and the United States are frequent and are often for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Continuing Legal Education of B.C., Pacific Business and Law Institute, ACTEC, and the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia. She is also one of the editors of the Continuing Legal Education of B.C.’s annually updated publication BC Estate Planning & Wealth Preservation, as well as an author of one of its chapters.
