HR Generalist

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of HR functions. You will be a key contributor in supporting our high-performing environment. You will do so with integrity, professionalism and good humour. You are a self-motivated and enthusiastic multi-tasker who enjoys a fast paced work environment, challenging work and providing great client service to multiple clients. You will work directly with the Chief Operating Officer and the Strategic Planning Committee.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include administrative support of the day-to-day HR operations, including:

    • creating and maintaining job postings, screening candidates, managing the recruitment process, coordinating employment offers, conducting reference and background checks
    • supporting the firm’s law student recruitment processes
    • managing and coordinating the onboarding process, including scheduling orientation, training and setting up service subscriptions
    • ensuring compliance for all reporting and records retention
    • maintaining employee records, including files, HRIS data, other
    • administering and maintaining vacation, sick days and coordinating staff coverage
    • administering leave programs (maternity/paternity/medical)
    • managing ergonomics
    • managing benefits administration, including payment
    • establishing, monitoring and managing performance expectations
    • conducting performance reviews
    • supporting the development and implementation of training programs
    • coordinating and managing staff compensation review process
    • maintaining staff birthdays
    • supporting conduct investigations
    • managing offboarding and coordinating terminations, including conducting exit interviews
    • chairing the Joint Health & Safety Committee

Additional Responsibilities

    • coordinating and managing all social events
    • coordinating and supporting the firm’s marketing initiatives

Education and Experience

Training and support on our systems will be provided. You will bring:

    • completion of a HR certificate or diploma is required
    • a minimum of two years’ experience in Human Resources
    • advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and Outlook
    • knowledge in employment and privacy regulations including Employment Standards Act, Workers Compensation Act, Human Rights Act, PIPA and PIPEDA
    • proven ability to build trust with all levels of employees within the workplace
    • strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication
    • strong critical thinking, analytical and interpersonal skills
    • excellent problem solving abilities
    • excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task
    • ability to maintain confidentiality

    • experience with managing a budget

Qualifications

Our successful candidate will have at least two years of experience in HR. You are a self-motivated individual with a positive and team-player attitude who seeks to exceed expectations. You must enjoy challenges and work well under pressure. Experience with a professional services firm is an asset, but not required.

Benefits and Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $80,000. Placement in the hiring range will depend on several factors such as level of experience, relevant skills and qualifications.
