Student Program

Note: We will participate in the 2024/25 articling student student recruitment processes.

Our approach to our student program is the long view. We expect our students to become longstanding lawyers with us. We are committed to provide our students with the support and foundation to become an excellent lawyer. During the summer and articling year, students are integrated into the firm by way of work assignments, rotations (during articles), formal and informal mentoring relationships, internal CLEs and social events.

Rotations

In the articling year, our student will complete a rotation with each of our Estates and Tax practice groups.

Mentorship

Each student will have a formal principal and mentor. Mentors meet regularly with our student to share feedback and provide guidance.

Professional Development

In addition to work assignments, regular internal CLEs are held. These cover both substantive and practical topics. From time-to-time, external speakers will present.

Clerkships

Our students are encouraged to apply for clerkships. We believe that clerkships provide valuable training and experience. Clerking provides experience with working in a court and understanding how judges work, interact and hear cases. In addition, clerks have the benefit of mentorship from judges and have the opportunity to develop strong legal research and writing skills.

Compensation and Benefits

The firm covers the Law Society’s costs of enrolment for summer articles and the articling year. Salaries for our students will be at market.

Benefits will be available to our articling student. This includes extended medical, dental and life insurance. Additional benefits include CLEs and a fitness subsidy.

Please apply through the viDesktop portal. Applications may be addressed to: Bibiane C. Bijsterveld, Office Manager.
